The purpose of this project is to uncover opportunities for a better utilization of Danish beech wood as a raw material in the green transformation of society. This can be explored by 3 routes.
1) by investigating the potential for creating durable beech wood products for outdoor use via modification, or
2) by utilizing sawdust, cuttings, bark and branches as raw material for biorefining, where the beech wood residues is hydrolysed into sugars, which are then raw materials for biofuels and biochemicals, and
3) by investigating the potential for extracting valuable ingredients from, for example, the bark.
